LOS ANGELES- Golden Boy Promotions reigns over Southern California boxing, holding two fight cards in the same week.

The company announced this week their latest matchup, providing no shortage of fight cards in the west coast. Taking over the Inland Empire, Golden Boy Promotions hosts a fight night in Fantasy Springs on May 12th and another in Ontario on May 14th.

“I want to make sure I keep boxing in LA and keep it strong and make it grow,” stated Oscar De La Hoya.

Headlining the second weekend of May, Saturday the 14th, is a fight card at the Toyota Arena in Ontario, CA.

The main event is a 12-round bout between light heavyweights Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (43-0, 29 KOs) and Dominic Boesel (32-2, 12 KOs).

Boesel hails from Germany as he makes his debut fighting in the states. The matchup brings WBA ‘s top #1 and #2 ranked fighters toe to toe as they aim to prove their superiority in the light heavyweight division. Boesel currently stands as WBA ‘s #1 fighter and Ramirez as #2.

Zurdos extensive knockout rate paired alongside 43 victories shows no fear to a WBA ranked #1 Boesel.

Golden Boys’ founder is nothing short of positive that the Sinaloan fighter will continue to prove himself in the division. Oscar De La Hoya spoke on his fairly new addition to Golden Boy promotions.

“I have really high hopes for him, he’s ready to take on the world, he's ready for anyone. He’s facing a very tough, durable in your face opponent,” stated De La Hoya.

Ramirez is confident he will be obtaining another knockout and determined to remain undefeated, stating it will become 44 victories and 30 knockouts under his belt come May 14th.

“I’m really confident in myself, in my training and my preparation,” stated Ramirez.

Although vastly undefeated and rightfully confident, Ramirez is humble in his approach. The Golden Boy prospect has faith in his training camp that’s successfully brought him to victory before.

Training at Brickhouse Boxing, under Joe Flores and Julian Chua, Ramirez surrounds himself with a team that's equally as hungry and eager to climb the ranks as he is.

When asked by Uppercut Magazine what he’s honing his training on, Ramirez replied,

“I'm working on my footwork, moving back and forth and side to side.”

Although confident in his program, Zurdo noted he will be looking out for his opponent's right hand. The undefeated fighter predicts a conclusion to the upcoming fight by a body shot or uppercut, most likely a combination by the calculated fighter.

Golden Boys founder De La Hoya and Ramirez spoke on the future of their new partnership and it foreshadows world titles and moving up a weight class or two for Ramirez.

Zurdo is simply looking to move past his opponent and onto Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (57-1-2,39 KOs), a match he’s been working toward. The southpaw is focused on moving up in the ranks and showing the world he’s the best of his weight class.

“I am the best in my division and I have to prove that to everyone. I've been looking for this opportunity to fight the best because I believe I'm the best in this division,” stated Ramirez.

The rising light heavyweight fighter won't stop at his current weight of 185. The fighter indicated that soon after he’s proved his dominance in this division, he would like to keep moving up in weight.

“I think cruiser then heavyweight. I'm tall and have muscle. I think I can take AJ, Anthony Joshua (24-2, 22 KOs). I think the time will come and my body will know when it's that time,” said Ramirez.

CO-main event

In the co-main event, an undefeated William “El Camaron” Zepeda (25-0,23 KOs) will be defending his WBA continental Americas lightweight title against Rene “Gemelo” Alvarado (32-11, 21 KOs). The bout is scheduled for 10 rounds.

With a 92% knockout rate, Zepeda holds his weight against a veteran fighter like Alvarado. “Gemelo” has suffered defeat in his last 3 bouts, an unfortunate pattern for the fighter.

It’s uncertain the entirety of the fight card coming May 14th, but it is sure to entail an explosive night at the Toyota Arena.

Tickets for the event are on sale at Ticketmaster.com. The card will be live streamed solely on DAZN.
