COMMERCE, Ca.-All Star Boxing promoter Ed Holmes delivered nine heavy swinging bouts to a rousing crowd during “Becoming of Legends” show at the Commerce Casino on Saturday.

Inglewood’s Sonny McEwen (7-0) defeated Anthony Hollaway (5-4-2) by unanimous decision in a perplexing but captivating six round light heavyweight main event. A mostly standing crowd full of McEwen fans showed no mercy to Hollaway, heckling him as he entered the ring.

The first round showed very little action. Each fighter threw mostly jabs. Long nulls were filled with the sound of fans shouting advice to McEwen as he swiveled in his fight stance, waiting for the punches to come to him. In the second round, McEwen played with both stances. Hollaway was more tense, while McEwen stayed loose and finally threw a hook to the body.

The third round delivered some action showcasing McEwen’s unique way of throwing an ortho cross turning it into a southpaw jab. Hollaway utilized good head movement, and at one point took advantage of McEwen’s trip in the ring by attacking him with power punches as soon as he got back on his feet. In a most exciting third round, Hollaway announced that he broke his nose from what may have been a head butt. The crowd seemed to take a liking to this, and Hollaway used his frustration to his advantage by knocking down McEwen with a right hand, left hook combo, “since the odds were against me, I was motivated to go even harder, it kept me moving until the end.”

McEwen took the knock down as a wake-up call and showed his talent by sharpening up his punches using more power and technical skill. Hollaway stuck with forward swinging punches, and showed a massive amount of dedication despite his broken nose. In the end, Hollaway’s persistent effort was not enough for the judges. The scorecards read 57-56, 57-56, 58-55 all for Sonny McEwen.

The supremely skilled Ricardo Ruvalcaba (7-0-2) knocked out Kenny Williams (4-10-1) 2:05 into the first round of the four round super lightweight bout. The fight proved to be an unfitting match up. Ruvalcaba knocked down Williams three times (one included a notable crowd jarring uppercut) before the KO by a ruthless right hand, left hook combo. Ruvalcaba went home with an easy W.

Relentless Juan Centeno defeated (8-6-3) southpaw Fernando Bahena (4-1-1) by majority decision in the six round superfly weight bout of the evening. It was a compatible match up, both fighters proved to be technically skilled in the ring. The first round was a bit rocky, lots of entanglement and several warnings to Centeno for pushing his opponents head down. Throughout the fight, both fighters used fast snapping punches. Centeno favored an impressive body double uppercut combo. In the fourth round, Centeno consistently walked down his opponent while Bahena utilized good head movement. In the fifth round, Centeno kept up the work and overwhelmed his opponent against the ropes. Bahena tried many times to land a southpaw cross but just barely missed. In the final round, Bahena landed a loud slapping left hook, while Centeno let a power flurry rip. The unyielding Centeno walked away with the W as the majority decision scorecards read, 56-58, 57-57, 55-59.

Crowd favorite Juan Carlos Hurtado (2-0) knocked out Las Vegas’ Kevin Arnold (0-2) one minute and fifty seconds into the first round of what was supposed to be a four round super welterweight battle. Hurtado completely overpowered and out boxed Arnold, walking away with the KO win.

Sebastian “Savage” Gutierrez (6-1-1) defeated Axl Solis (5-3-1) by majority decision in a technically advanced six round super featherweight bout. The first and second round showed a powerful punch exchange from both brawlers. Gutierrez used a low crouching stance to explode with upward punches down the middle, and a triple jab off the ropes while Solis landed a solid cross up hook combo followed by intricate head movement. The third round favored Gutierrez showing fast hands while Solis threw very little punches, but the fourth round had Gutierrez against the ropes while Solis worked the body. The fifth and sixth round did not have much action. The crowd began to shout advice to get the boxers moving. There were brief moments that displayed technical skill with a shuffle throw shuffle throw pattern followed by successful punches from each fighter. The scorecards read 57-57, 59-55, and 58-56 with the pride of Oxnard Sebastian “Savage” Gutierrez as the winner.

Wild Card Boxing’s Dariial Kuchemenov (6-0) knocked out Carlos “The Machine” Mujica (6-2) one minute and six seconds into the third round of the six round super featherweight bout. The first two rounds were filled with many notable punches from each fighter, but Kuchemenov stole the show in the third round. Mujica was down once by a sneaky cross then again a second time, but this time the referee did not finish the count and called it.

Brickhouse Boxing’s Cashton Young (4-2-1) defeated newcomer Iman “Monstro” Williams (0-1) by split decision in the four round heavyweight bout of the evening. Young stayed light on his feet while Williams had a very relaxed guard. Both boxers started off with solid punches, Young stuck to jabs, while Williams walked him down followed by uppercuts. Williams began to tire and started to throw leaping jabs. Young took advantage of his opponent's lack of energy and knocked him down in the fourth round. The judges' scorecards read 38-37, 37-38, 37-38, sending Young home with the W.

Michael “The Bull” Portales (2-0-1) defeated Wild Card Boxing’s Hector Perez (1-2-1) by unanimous decision in the four round welterweight battle of the evening. Portales showed a wide stance low hanging guard with swinging punches while Perez sported a tight guard he used to absorb and explode back. Throughout the entire fight, Perez threw very little punches. Portales put in the work and did not wait for his opponent. Soon Perez had a bleeding nose and both fighters were covered in blood. Portales showed extensive footwork followed by meaningful punches. The judges' scorecards read 36-40, 36-40, 37-39. All in favor of Bullgang Boxing’s Portales.

Popular Terrel Adams (3 -0) defeated Johnathan Moskowitz (0-2) by unanimous decision in the four round super welterweight bout of the evening. Adams started out with strong crosses and easy moving pivots, but southpaw Moskowitz brought a frustrating fight to the ring by smothering Adam’s with his right hand and pushing him forward with his forearm. Adams retaliated with slapping left hooks and punched and rolled his way out of the pushing. The judges' scorecards read 40-36, 40-36, 40-36 with Adam’s taking home the W.
