Looking to explode into the New Year the Los Angeles-based company Golden Boy Promotions led with undefeated Vergil Ortiz Jr. and a few surprise announcements.

Oscar De La Hoya invited media to his new home in Las Vegas and while giving a tour of the newly constructed mountainside, the CEO of Golden Boy Promotions also announced the company is moving to the casino city.

Alongside former foe and now partner Bernard Hopkins, both Hall of Fame fighters described the reasons for the move and their plans to expand the Golden Boy universe into the East Coast and more.

One of their prize assets Ortiz Jr. finally returned to the boxing ring and quickly dispatched of his foe Fredrick Lawson inside one round. Fans were enraged by the quick stoppage and the ensuing controversy surrounding the downed fighter’s ability to fight by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

Accusations were tossed on social media and the end result was nothing about nothing.

But the entire card was filled with knockouts and surprises at the Virgin Hotel Las Vegas to open up the casino city’s year with boxing.

It was a tremendous start for the New Year of 2024.
