LOS ANGELES- On Tuesday Golden Boy Promotions hosted their media workout event at the Banc of California Stadium. The public event showcased their upcoming fight night headliners that will perform at the same venue on Friday July 9th and will stream on DAZN and Facebook. It’s an extremely large card that begins at noon and continues through the night.

Many of Golden Boy Promotions top fighters will be in action including undefeated Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez, Jojo Diaz, and Hector Tanajara. The LA fight card also features two female world title fights pitting Japan’s best versus Americas top female fighters.

Seniesa Estrada

East Los Angeles native, Seniesa “Superbad” Estrada (20-0, 8 K.O.), commenced the event. Superbad gave fans a spectacle as she displayed her power and is excited to continue where she left off in March of 2021 in winning her first world title.

“This is so important, not only am I a female on the fight card, I’m fighting for a title as well,” said Estrada who holds the WBA minimumweight title and is moving up a weight division to challenge Japan’s Tsunami Tenkai for the WBO light flyweight world title.

The female fighter also stated that in the matchup of Fortuna against Diaz, she is “Pro JOJO,” and rooting for her ex-sparring partner Diaz.

“Jojo was my toughest sparring partner... I’ve fought so many boys as a kid. Jojo was definitely my toughest for sure.”

Following Estrada’s ring workout, Willliam Zepeda (20-0, 20 K.O) took the ring. Mexico native, Zepeda, will be fighting Hector “El Finitio” Tanajara Jr (19-0, 5 KO).

Hector Tanajara

Texas native Hector Tanajara spoke with the media about Friday's fight.

“I’m in the best shape of my life. I've been going 12 rounds this camp. Manny Rodriguez, Alexis Rocha, even the guys I’ve been sparring with are top level fighters, I’m more than ready to show that this Friday.”

Years ago, Tanajara sparred Zepeda at 15/16 at the Olympic training center and is looking forward to battling a familiar face.

“I think a win like this, with his record. He’s a ranked higher. A win like this would definitely put me in talks for some big fights after this.”

After weighing 135, Tanajara wants to go for a title fight, stating Devin Haney as the probable matchup.

Co- main event

Fortuna V. Diaz

In the co-main event, Dominican Republic's Javier “El Abejon” Fortuna (36-2-1) will be fighting Joseph “Jojo” Diaz (31-1-1) for the WBC interim world light title.

Fortuna was asked about the fallout of fighting Ryan Garcia who was his original foe.

“He is a coward. He pretended something that didn’t happen and now the people are seeing that.”

“El Abejon’’ is focused on his fight with Diaz.

“I’m actually happy, cause he actually has the balls to face me unlike Garcia who thinks he’s too big of a champion,” stated Fortuna.

Los Angeles native, Diaz appeared eager to get back in the ring.

“I feel really great, I feel energized. I had a really good training camp. Made sure my body filled out at 135 pounds.. I can’t wait to show off Friday. This is not an easy challenge that I’m accepting. I’m going out and facing a guy that a lot of favorite fighters are ducking and fearing. I’m going up to challenge him at his weight and I plan on going out there and stomping him. “

Main event

Ramirez vs. Barrera

To close the event, main event fighter, Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (41-0, 27 K.O.)

Making his Golden Boy debut, Ramirez will be facing Sullivan Barrera (22-3).

“Best performance always. Now time to put everything in the ring. I want to take this opportunity... I want to get a title fight.”

Zurdo also spoke to the media about sparring with David Benavidez.

“He’s champion level, you cannot get that kind of sparring anywhere.”

Ramirez has been training with Julian Chua at Brick House Boxing in Los Angeles. Chua and Ramirez are very close in age.

“I love it because he’s young and we match really good,” said Zurdo

Since moving his weight from 168 up to 175, Zurdo says he is feeling great.

“I feel great, I feel like 175 is my weight.”
