POMONA, CA- Seats were not left empty on Saturday as Marvanation promotions hosted their most action-packed event, Box Fest 3. Celebrity boxing stars like Maricela Cornejo, Adelaida Ruiz, and Jack Mosley roamed the fight scene.

The main event of the night was a super featherweight clash between Jesus “Chuy” Torres Beltran (5-1) and Oliver “El Gallo Negro” Galicia (4-0-1, 3 KO). The fighters faced off in a 6-round-bout as the two kept scores close on Saturday night.

From beginning to end, Galicia moved erratically in the ring, while Beltran remained more calculated in his approach. By the 3rd round, Galicia was throwing himself in his aimless punches, almost slipping. Beltran remained focused on his opponent's body as the two began leaning on each other, exerting their remaining energy.

The rounds remained sloppy as the two brawled with the air and occasionally each other.

It was in the 4th round that Galicia began sharpening his movement, amping up his combinations as he worked on better distancing from Beltran. Beltran began throwing tired jabs, leaning on Galicia before withstanding another powered combination.

In the last ten seconds of the final round, the two attempted a brawl, connecting a few impactful blows before the final bell rang.

The close fight had many confused as judges' scoring did not match their perception.

The judges scored a split decision, 57-57, 58-56,59-55 with Galicia as the ultimate winner. Fans and media alike were angered as many felt Beltran deserved the win or a draw at best.

Galicia remains undefeated with (4-0-1, 3 K.O).

Co main:

The co main event was a welterweight showdown between Kyle Erwin (4-0, 2 K.O.) and Alan Eduardo Rosas Gutierrez (4-1, 4 K.O.). The bout had the audience on the edge of their seats as the two moved around the ring.

Erwin moved like a blitzkrieg in the ring, bombarding his opponent with a flurry of combos. Rosas was consistent with his heavy left hooks, however, lacked diversity with his movement.

In the second round, Erwin knocked down his opponent only for him to rise before the bout could be stopped. Immediately after rising, Rosas went in for an uppercut to Erwins body but was overpowered by a speedy and consistent Erwin. Erwin’s form didn’t hint that of a recent amateur as he was swift to strike and move. In the last round, the two went pound for pound as they slammed each other with their fists.

Rosas suffered his second defeat of his professional career, an unlucky pattern appearing for the fighter.

The bout was scored a unanimous decision of 40-35 with Erwin as winner.

Other bouts:

In the flyweight division, an undefeated Christian Robles (7-0, 3 KO’s) faced off against Jose Rodriguez Montemayor (5-7, 4 KO’s).

The 4-round bout was cut short by an explosive Robles. Robles’ attacks were relentless as he cornered Rodriguez against the ropes before working a combo to his body before repeatedly pounding his head. The bout was called to a halt at only 1:01 of the first round, a knockout victory for Robles. Robles remains undefeated with 7 victories.

In the welterweight division, Zsolt “The Phenom” Daranyi (15-1, 14 KO’s) faced off against Martin Angel Perez (21-20-1, 14 KO’s) in an 8-round-bout. Daranyi’s 87% percent knockout rate was apparent as the fighter used his lengthy arms to his advantage. Perez took his time in the round as he sought after the right range and opening to attack. In the 4th round Perez was knocked down only to rise quickly, too dazed to dodge Daranyi’s blows. Referee Ray Corona brought the bout to an end at 1:31, while Perez remained hunched over, holding a swelling right eye. Daranyi moves to 15-1, adding his 14th knockout.

In the highly anticipated women's welterweight division, Summer Lynn (7-0, 3KO) of Chicago went toe-to-toe against Haitian fighter Jaica Pavilus (2-5-1,1 KO). Lynn, trained by Chicago’s famous Rick Ramos, had welterweight champion Jessica McCaskill (11-2, 4 KO’s) present in her corner. The bout lacked structure as the two female warriors lacked the distance they needed to land solid blows. The two women were often entangled, leaving the bouts referee with no choice but to pause the round every time.

Cues by Ramos could be heard from the audience, guiding Lynn to pull back after striking. Neither woman moved around enough as they both could use guidance on their footwork.

By the 5th round, Lynn picked up her training as she led the round, working combinations to her staggering opponent.

The bout was scored a split decision of 60-54 and 59-55, with Lynn as winner. Lynn improves to her 7th victory.

Shahid

The first fight of the night began the show with a bang. It was a 4-round welterweight clash between Rashad Shahid (6-0) and Daniel Perales Osorio (12-23-2). Shahid was a force to be reckoned with, proving why he remains undefeated. As Shahid led the round, Perales remained endurant as he lacked diversity in his jabs.

Shahid's mind and body appeared completely consumed by the bout as he incessantly attacked his opponent, always keeping Perales at a distance. Perales continued to look for an opening to gain a knockout as Shahid showed no hint at easing up. The last 10 seconds of the bout, the two repeatedly went jab for jab as they pounded each other with fists before the bout ended.

The match was scored 40-36, another victory for an undefeated Shahid.

Rashad Shahid punched his way to victory passed Daniel Osorio.

Kyle Erwin knocked down Alan Gutierrez.

Zsolt Daranyi added another knockout win to his resume.

Summer Lynn rumbled past Jaica Pavilus to remain undefeated.
