Oscar Negrete "El Jaguar"(17-0 7KOs) won the vacant NABF bantamweight championship belt by knockout over Sergio "Frio" Frias from Guadalajara Mex (19-7-2 9kos ) on Friday June 30 at Fantasy Springs Casino.

The main event was scheduled for 10 rounds and the charismatic Colombiano was originally slated to fight undefeated local desert star Randy Caballero. But the former world champion Caballero got hurt in training camp and was force to drop out of the fight. Instead, Negrete came out confident and calm on sizzling 120-degree hot night to face Mexico’s Frias.

The undefeated Negrete walked into the ring with first a Colombian song and then a Mexican song to honor his great crowd following of Mexican fans here in California.

Frias looked sharp and ready to battle. Negrete seemed small for the Mexican opponent but everything changed quickly as the fight developed.

As Frias began being more aggressive and looking to dominate his rival, but Negrete was the smarter, faster and aggressive fighter. Negrete showed a lot of great skills fighting in a perfect distance, pushing his opponent and connecting with every single punch.

Negrete didn’t give Frias a chance to use his reach advantage against him. On the third round Negrete put Frias on the canvas with a strong right cross. Frias beat the count and the fight continued as the Mexican warrior showed his heart.

“The plan was to attack the body early and wear him down,” said Negrete. “He is a tall fighter and very experienced. He beat two former world champions by knockout so I had to be careful.”

Finally at the 8th round Negrete knocked down Frias again and was awarded the victory.by knockout when the Mexican fighter didn't come out to start the 9th round.

Negrete is now the NABA bantamweight champion.  It’s the first title of his career.

He wants Caballero next.
