Golden Boy Prospects Ortiz and Tanajara Tested in L.A. on Saturday

Hot knockout artist Vergil Ortiz Jr. (9-0, 9 KO) takes on former world title champion Juan Carlos Salgado (27-8-1, 16, 3 KO) in a 10-round super lightweight main event this Saturday, June 23, for another LA FIGHT CLUB, Golden boy promotions show at the Belasco Theatre in Los Angeles, CA. ESPN will televise.

Ortiz Jr., of Texas comes back to the ring after capturing the Junior NABF title in a third-round technical knockout win over Jesus Alvarez Rodriguez. None of Ortiz’ fights have reached the final round, and he expects this fight to be no different, “I’ve stopped all of my opponents in my career, and I hope to do the same in my toughest fight yet”.

Salgado, a decorated world title holder is coming into this fight with high confidence and experience as his stronghold, “I know people think I’ll be another stepping stone for Vergil Ortiz Jr,”, he says, “But, I want to tell everyone they’re wrong”.

There is high expectation for either another continuous undefeated record or a surprising upset of the knockout rising star Ortiz Jr.

In the co- main event, Hector “El Finito” Tanajara Jr. (13-0, 5 KO) takes on Roger “The Kid” Gutierrez (18-1-1, 15 KO) in an eight-round lightweight clash. Tanajara Jr. of Texas, has achieved excellence as an amateur boxer and his continued success rolls over into his career as a professional.

Gutierrez of Venezuela, is coming back to the Belasco Theatre hoping for a different outcome than his July 7, 2017, loss against Rene Alvarado. Gutierrez has since won the last five fights since his first loss. Let’s hope “the kid” doesn’t get “El Finito” against his undefeated rival in the ring.
