Canelo immediately showed his strength against Cotto.

Canelo was the aggressor and knew he was the stronger man.

During a fierce exchange Alvarez hurt Cotto and moved in for the kill.

Alvarez pounded the body throughout the 12-round war.

The Mexican and Puerto Rican middleweight warriors embraced after the final bell. Their was mutual respect from the day they announced the fight last August.

Cotto staved off Alvarez with well-placed left jabs to keep from being over run.

Cotto placed his punches in perfect spots but could not mount a serious offensive attack. Most of his punches came during counter-attacks. Seldom did he aggressively challenge the younger Canelo.

After the judges verdict was announced and Alvarez was declared the winner, a somber Cotto consoled his surprised trainer Freddie Roach. The team seemed unbeatable. Will Cotto continue? Will he seek a rematch with Canelo?
