Andre Ward and Chris Arreola Dominate at Home Depot Center

CARSON, CALIF.-Andre Ward (24-0 13 KO’S) of Oakland moves on to the finals of the Super Six to face the winner of the Carl Froch vs. Glen Johnson fight after defeating Arthur “The King” Abraham (32-3 26 KO’s) of Berlin Germany. 

The fans awaited the semi final bout between these two warriors. Many fans came in support of Abraham holding the Armenian flag and chanting for Arthur. As the fight began both fighters felt each other out. Ward used the whole ring to his advantage and kept Abraham on the outside. 

It was what everyone expected. A good shot from Abraham could put Ward in danger.  Abraham came forward throughout the whole fight with his hands up and a tight guard on his face. Ward jabbed to the head and body. As his head was low, Abraham came in and held his head in a head lock. He pushed away and threw to land a power shot. Ward was angered and began to let go of his combinations. 

Ward used his jab effectively and continued to dominate Abraham. Abraham lunged in with wild punches trying to score a knockout. The crowd went wild and made the fight more interesting than it really was. After 12 rounds, the judges scored a unanimous decision with 120-108, 118-110, and 118-111 for ward. 

In the semi main event and heavyweight division, Chris Arreola (31-2 27 KO’s) of Riverside knocked out Nagy Aguilera (16-6 11` KO’s) of Newburgh, NY

Arreola came forward from the beginning of the round. He cornered Aguilera and attacked. He caught Aguilera with hard combinations, but he wouldn’t go down. Aguilera then turned Arreola around and began to work him against the ropes, but it wasn’t enough to hurt Arreola. 

Arreola continued to come forward and corner Aguilera. He landed uppercuts and overhand rights and Aguilera didn’t give up. He tried surviving by bobbing and weaving, but the referee decided he was taking too much punishment and stepped in at 1:58 of the third round, declaring Arreola the winner by TKO. 

In the super middleweight division Shawn Estrada (12-0 11 KO’s) of East Los Angeles defeated Joseph Gardner (7-3-1 1KO) of Woonsocket, RI. Estrada made quick work of Gardner. He threw a combination followed by a hard left hook that dropped Gardner. The referee started the count and Gardner did not get up. The referee ended the fight at 1:27 of the first round. Estrada remained undefeated with a KO victory. 

In the second junior middle weight bout, Javier Molina (6-0 4 KO’S) of Norwalk, CA defeated Danny Figueroa (3-2 2 KO’s) of Hastings, MN with a unanimous decision. Molina was too quick for Figueroa. Molina lived up to his nick name “El Intocable”, The Untouchable. He hit and moved and was hardly ever touched by Figueroa. All three judges scored the fight 40-36 for Molina. 

In the middleweight division Dominick Britisch (22-0 8 KO’s) of Germany, Bad Friedrichshall defeated Delray Raines (18-10-1 13 KO’s) of Paris, AK.  Raines used his jab and tried to keep Britisch on the outside. Britisch threw powerful left hooks and overhand rights that landed on the back of Raines head and dropped him. He was given an eight count. Britisch began to throw his combinations and landed a body shot to the liver that sent Raines down to the canvas. Raines got back up and began to attack. Britisch threw a quick right cross and again sent Raines down. The fight was stopped at 2:21 of the fifth round. 

In the junior bantamweight division, Matt Villanueva (6-0 6 KO’s) of Van Nuys CA defeated Frank Gutierrez (2-10-2 1 KO) of Highland CA. Gutierrez was knocked down twice with a right cross. He did not get up after the second knockdown. The referee called off the fight at 2:56 of the first round declaring Villanueva the winner by way of KO. 

In the junior middleweight division, Armen Ovesepyan (11-1 9 KO’s) of Yerevan, Armenia defeated Arturo Brambilla (9-15-4 KO’s) of Guadalajara Mexico by way of knockout in the first round. 

In the junior welterweight division, Andrey Klimov (11-0 6 KO’s) of Van Nuys stopped Ty Barnett (18-2-1 12 KO’s) of Washington DC in the third round.
