Undefeated heavyweight prospect Alex Flores (8-0, 6 KOs) of Pomona fights undefeated Joey Montoya (4-0-3, 3 KOs) of Colorado on Thursday May 17, at the Lakeside Golf Course in Burbank. WBO flyweight titleholder Susi Kentikian (29-0, 16 KOs) fights Melissa McMorrow (6-3-3) on Wednesday May 16. The female title match will be held at Frankfurt, Germany. McMorrow fights out of San Carlos, California.
Ventura’s Maureen Shea (18-2, 11 KOs), formerly of New York City, fights Cynthia Munoz (6-0, 3 KOs) on Thursday May 17, in Morelia, Mexico. In a junior flyweight match, Esmeralda Moreno (22-6, 9 KOs) fights Guadalupe Bautista (3-3-1).
Fast-rising heavyweight contender Franklin Lawrence (17-2-2, 12 KOs) meets veteran Mike Mollo (20-3-1, 12 KOs) on Friday May 18. The match takes place at Dover Downs Hotel and Casino in Dover, Delaware. The vacant NABA title is at stake.
Undefeated junior welterweights Karim Mayfield (15-0-1, 9 KOs) of San Francisco, California and Raymond Serrano (18-0, 8 KOs) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania meet in a battle of West meets East. Both will be fighting for the vacant NABO junior welterweight title on Friday May 18.
Former super middleweight world champion Mikkel Kessler (44-2, 33 KOs) of Denmark fights Allan Green (31-3, 21 KOs) in a light heavyweight match. Their bout takes place Saturday in Copenhagen, Denmark.
IBF junior bantamweight titleholder Juan Carlos Sanchez Jr. (13-1-1, 7 KOs) fights Juan Alberto Rosas (36-6, 27 KOs) in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. The title match will take place on Saturday May 19.
Peru’s Kina Malpartida (13-3, 3 KOs), the WBA junior lightweight titleholder, defends against Sriphrae Nongkipahuyuth (11-1-1, 4 KOs). This will be the Peruvian superstar’s fifth consecutive title defense. The fight will take place in Callao, Peru.
WBO flyweight champion Brian “Hawaiian Punch” Viloria (31-3, 18 KOs) stopped Mexico’s Omar Nino (31-5-2, 13 KOs) at 2:07 of round nine. It was their third meeting. Nino had defeated Viloria in their first fight but failed a drug test in their second fight. The title fight was held in Manila, Philippines last Saturday.
WBC flyweight world titleholder Mariana “Barbie” Juarez (34-5-3, 16 KOs) won by split decision over former flyweight champion Arely Mucino (15-2-1, 8 KOs) on Saturday May 12. The match between Mexican flyweights took place in Mexico City. It was Juarez’s sixth consecutive title defense. The scores were 98-90, 96-91 for Juarez and 95-94 for Mucino.
WBA middleweight world titleholder Gennady Golovkin (23-0, 20 KOs) knocked out Makoto Fuchigami (19-7, 10 KOs) at 1:17 of round three. The title fight was held in Brovari, Ukraine. Also, WBO junior middleweight titleholder Zaurbek Baysangurov (27-1, 20 KOs) beat Michel Soro (18-1) by unanimous decision.
Junior lightweight contender Vicente “Chente” Escobedo (26-3, 15 KOs) out-pointed Juan Ruiz (23-10) after 10 rounds on Saturday May 12. The match was held in Escobedo’s hometown Woodland in Northern California. Escobedo trains in Indio.
El Monte’s Ricky Duenas (11-1, 5 KOs) knocked out Lawrence Hughes (4-3) at 1:52 of round one of a junior welterweight clash. The match was held in Pomona on Saturday May 12. It was Duenas second consecutive knockout win. Also, Riverside’s Robert Guzman (2-0) and Kevin Sagado (1-0) were victorious. Oscar Venegas (3-0) and Holly Lawson (10-0) were also winners.
WBC, WBA junior welterweight titleholder Monica Acosta (17-0-2) knocked out Dayana Cordero (8-2) at the end of round five to retain the world titles. Their match was held in Cordoba, Argentina on Friday May 11.
Detroit’s Tony Harrison (7-0, 7 KOs) stopped Riverside’s Ishwar Amador (11-10, 7 KOs) at 1:56 of round two of a junior middleweight clash. Also, Jonathan Alcantara (6-7-2) defeated Walter Sarnoi (10-3) by decision and Hector Serrano (14-3) beat Angel Rios (9-12). The fight card took place at Pechanga Resort and Casino on Friday May 11.
East L.A.’s Aron Martinez (17-1-1, 4 KOs) knocked out welterweight Joshua “Superman” Marks (8-4, 8 KOs) at 2:32 of round seven at the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario. Also, Riverside’s Sindy Amador (8-0) defeated San Diego’s Amaris Quintana (6-1-3) by decision in a junior flyweight fight. Other winners were Jhonatan Romero, Rigoberto Flores, Juan Reyes, Sergio Nunez and Isaac Zarate.
